  • Brilliant scripts, acting and directing. Unforgettable stories and characters. Very relevant today.

If you know about this series you do need reminding how astonishingly good it was. The characters were real, convincing, human and up against it, and the world they worked in is utterly real, because it was filmed right there. Bleasdale's writing is masterful, never a word wasted, and the director(s) did a stunning job of concisely showing Liverpool and its grimy environs as they were. It's gritty, real and yet undoubtedly art, many levels above the dreary 'realism' of East Enders and the like. The stories are from a certain time and place, but as explorations and developments of characters it's a masterpiece. If you like Scouse humour and can take a journey into some pretty dark places, you'll probably enjoy this unique series and recognise its worth. The episode that preceded the series by two years is also superb. And although the boys were struggling in the time of Thatcher, you will surely see that very little has changed in 2020s Britain.

  • See it and weep.

This iconic series has gone down in the annals of political drama as true to life today as in the period illustrated. The acting is superb, as is the writing. Please see it - learn it's lessons.

  • Liverpudlian life as it was in the 80’s

Gritty and realistic drama set in Liverpool. Well worth a watch on DVD as it wouldn’t pass the criteria for the junk standards of today’s TV.

  • Giz a Job i can do that.

Brilliant - timeless - funny - sad drama. Amazing characters and story lines in each episode. 1980s British TV drama at it's best by Alan Bleasdale.
