quite superb, Guinness quiet underplayed role is amazing, watch it
must be one of the best book based tv series ever, all the performers are excellent , starts slowly but builds until the final denouemen, superb vfm to boot
This is not one film, but a series of TV episodes strung together. There is no attempt to make it continuous, after each episode ends, you have all the title and advert pages before the next episode starts. Not only that, but both the story and the speech is disjointed as well, yet strange words pop up being spoken by different characters, for example "getting scalped". That was something from the red indians in westerns, nothing to do with the cold war, and the writer should have found different words for each character, not displaying his or her own lack of vocabulary.
Altogether, a not very enterprising production, and before the end, I had had enough, thinking that it was feeble.
A brilliant and relatively faithful adaptation of the book by John Le Carrie. A spy thriller that is a winner in atmosphere, story and characters. Realistic, gritty and engrossing; the series trumps everything that has come before it and since.
