    Arguably the greatest TV drama series ever broadcast

    Dennis Potter's masterpiece beautifully filmed and with a towering lead performance from the great Sir Michael Gammon, well deserving it's 3 Baftas (and 8 or 9 further nominations. Made back in an age when the BBC had balls to commission a drama like this. Nearly 20 years later it still looks fresh and groundbreaking. Not a background or 'popcorn' viewing - you have to dedicate brainpower to following the 3 distinct interwoven stories together and understand that much of what you are watching is fantasy (the eponymous pulp novel), the childhood memories, and the illness/medication induced hallucinations, all woven masterfully together. Brilliant!
