Additional Information
A day-by-day look at The Beatles' first tour in the USA, beginning with their arrival on February 7, 1964. Featured is off-stage footage of the four band members on the road and in their hotel rooms as they sample American culture and clown around. Included is never-before-seen coverage of their activities in New York, Washington D.C., and Miami shot by the Maysles Brothers (the masterminds behind the pioneering Rolling Stones documentary GIMME SHELTER). THE FIRST U.S. VISIT also includes three of the Beatles' unforgettable performances on the Ed Sullivan Show--preserved intact.
okHaving converted most of my old video collection to DVD I was thrilled to find this film gem in digital format. If you watch this in widescreen format, it really does the battle scene great justice; coupled with surround sound, you'll be gripped by the amazing cinematography. I would recommend the director's cut that includes scenes about the relationship between the lead character and his estranged wife and helps you to understand the motivation behind his decision. The run time is 183 minutes for the directors cut and 120 minutes for the cinema version. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of extras, which any fan of this classic would expect to be included. There's only a 20-minute interview with the director and other shot "making-of" vignettes.
A 'must-have' for every Beatle fanatic on the planet!
Are you ready to be taken back in time to the 60s?
Filming like a home recording, the camera has direct communication with the Beatles so that you are experiencing them there and then. Therefore the form of the film isn't like a usual documentary accompanied with facts and a narrator interrupting the sequence of events. Time is the only narrative here and you are bound to enjoy the beatles throughout as they invite you to share their anticipation and occupations that come with their performances but mostly to join in with their laughter, jokes and playfulness- which are so naturally exhibited by their selves and adds to the lightness of the way the whole film is made.
There was nothing in there which I didn't like. The fact that it records the Beatles up-close and in personal achieves a lot more than any other documentary about the beatles can. Nothing can be greater than seeing these loveable icons of rock and roll naturally living their lifestyle.Read full review
Excellent piece of Beatles to have. Shows them in a relaxed manner joking about with the camera. Absolutley hilarious, not to mention drop dead gorgeous!
Great DVD for any Beatles fan!
