🔥 Hikvision DS-7608NI-I2/8P(C) 8CH 4K PoE NVR – Ultra HD Network Video Recorder with AI Smart Features 🔥. Thedual-stream recording reduces bandwidth usage while maintaining video quality, making remote viewing smooth and efficient.
Great functionality, works well with other ONVIF devices but is pretty noisy.
This was first purchase of a CCTV system for my home and so I did quite a lot of research on YouTube etc to try to ensure I made best decision possible. I had originally hoped to run a home PC with NVR software as I really didn't want a new dedicated server box. It seems like Blue Iris is a great package but it does seem that the sheer CPU and graphics CPU grunt you need in a general purpose PC would mean building a very, very high end PC and three or four times the cost of this NVR - which I paid £277 for. I bought a single 8 MP HikVision IP camera and sure enough my fairly high end PC was just maxed out the whole time with the IP stream.
So after ruling out the PC route I did my best to compare the different manufacturers and in the end went with Hikvision due to quality of the reviews others had done, and due to the ONVIF functionality (ONVIF is the industry standard where you can add other manufacturer's cameras). A lot of other CCTV systems are a lock in to their own cameras.
I have so far put 3 HikVision IP cameras on this together with a doorbell that is ONVIF and this works very well.
I had read that this unit has really noisy fans and sure enough I couldn't put up with sitting next to it due the 2 fans droning on the entire time, so had to purchase a HDMI/mouse extender to locate the NVR in a locked area away from me.
The only other issue of note is that the web interface whilst generally very good does not give the full functionality of the attached HDMI console. Hopefully that will come in the future.
I really like the Hik-Connect mobile app which gives excellent access to real-time and play-back of the cameras attached to the NVR.
I think in common with most CCTV systems it is very difficult to set up alarms without getting loads of false alarms.
One last thing was that I bought this as a project to do during the great lock down of 2020 and HikVision is of the same ilk as Huawei - i.e. big Chinese manufacturer. I decided to go with them despite this but others may not.
