Great NAS for home use, just watch drive selection for noise
Good: This NAS was extremely easy to setup and the features of DSM 6.1 are awesome! I get great speed on file transfers and it doesn't use much power at all. Bad: The fan on the NAS is quiet, but watch your drive selection. Chassis is made of cheap thin plastic and resonates easily, so it doesn't block much sound. I installed 2x 2TB HGST 7K4000 drives and they are LOUD. I ended up taking the DS216j apart and lining the inside of the plastic chassis with 80 mil Dynamat material, followed by a layer of Silverstone SF01 acoustic foam and it helped massively, but the drive noise is still noticeable.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Synology DS216J is nice!
This is not what I wanted but what I could afford at this time. It is however better than the DS213J that I have and faster too! My DS213j filled up with nearly 4TB of data and I needed something for new data storage. While I would have preferred something expandable, I could not afford it currently. The DS216J is very similar to the DS213J but the hardware specs are better. The 213 is a single core 1.2 with 512 RAM, but the 216 is 1.0 dual core with 512 ram and one can really tell the difference in read write times and data transfers.
