pleasantly surprised!
At first I thought I had received a bad unit as no lights on powering, expecting it to be like simple cable testers but this appears to have an actual controller on board that has to be booted by holding the mode button down for a few seconds before it shows any sign of life. It does come in a retail package and the "Multiple Power Supply" labeling refers to its ability to be powered by a PP3 9V battery or 7.4-8.4V Li-ion battery or a micro-USB power source like from any USB host device or power bank or charger. Current consumption is less than 10mA from my USB charger! I have tested it on known good CAT-5e and HDMI cables and it exposed one HDMI cable that though functional did not have all pins connected and a different one that did have all pins connected. The packaging includes a double sided instruction sheet written in English which does include some data on RG-11 connection testing operation but that does not apply to this model.
