Another great new-tool from Airfix. Although I have not yet assembled my kit, it can be seen from opening the box that the parts are well moulded, zero flash evident, no noticeable ejector pin marks etc. Recessed panel lines are done very nicely and to my eye look to be the most refined and retrained lines on the recent 1/72 releases. As ever, don't forget that you will need to purchase paints and glue to complete the kit! Highly recommended to modellers with at least some previous experience, but perhaps not best suited to a novice or first time modeller

Interesting quite large kit which in part is quite difficult as to the position of the engines, intakes and jet thrust pipes. I think it is time it was retooled as I had to do quite a bit of trimming of plastic. In addition I had to use super glue to enable the front section to join the middle fuselage and wings section. The rear fuselage only just fitted too and I had to resort to the rubber band trick to ensure a good fit. I never worked out how the drop tanks fitted together, either way there was a gap, so I fitted the external bombs and rocket pods instead. However, once painted with several coats of RN sea grey and the good set of transfers applied - choice of two it looked very good. It needed more weight in the nose than the instructions said. It would be good if Hornby could spend some money and retool this kit and also provide RAF transfers. After the sad demise of out large carriers Ark Royal and Eagle the aircraft gave more years of service in 6 squadrons of the RAF and was used in the first Gulf War too.. It was used to carry the lasers so the Tornadoes could use smart bombs. Once that kit could be fitted on the Tornadoes the Buccaneer was soon retired.Read full review

On opening the box and inspecting the kit the detail was nice, no flash and the instructions look quite straightforward. I haven't started building it yet, so can't comment on how it goes together. Two bad points, and so far the only bad points , are the ordnance. 2 freefall bombs, and here's the worst bit, two rocket pods that have half of them moulded into the pylon, why? I can cut them off no problem but why should I have to if I want rearm it differently, hopefully an aftermarket company will bring out some replacement pylons for it. I don't know what Airfix were thinking with that idea.

Beautifully detailed and moulded kit of the Classic Buccaneer S.2C. Saw a decommissioned version of the Buccaneer at the Ulster Aviation Museum NI and was very impressed! So much so that I really needed to own a scaled down version. Can't wait to get started, but am taking my time as I really want to produce a well built and painted model. Hopefully the plastic doesn't need too much cleaning to get the paint to uniformly stick to it.

I've just finished this aircraft and to say that it was entertaining is well and truly an understatement of how excellent this plane is. As a vivid 1960's US and RAF aircraft lover, this aircraft is well worth the money to add to one's collection. All my life as a small boy I have wanted a Buccaneer to build and now at last.. airfix has rebooted the old kit and made us something new to enjoy, I only hope they will do the same with more iconic 1960s aircraft in the near future. This aircraft has a rightful place in my cabinet. - I highly recommend more buy this plane, and I give it all 5 stars. Excellent and wonderful aircraft!
