Clear presentation of the Italian Campaign with interesting camera footage. At times perhaps somewhat sketchy on the detail but good for an overview. The title is also slightly misleading as the DVD's focus is more than just the battle at Monte Cassino. The section by 'experts' dealing with specific questions is excellent and well worth exploring. In summary then a helpful introduction before reading one of the books on the subject.
I bought it for my Father-in-law and watched it myself. And it is as he described his time in Monte Cassino, very graphic and brutal as was the war there. Some of the things the soldiers had to endure was to last them a life time, sufering, brutality and soul destroying especially what general Paton did to his men. I felt humbled by what they suffered as in any war for the sake of us the cervilions, for a decent way of life. This is just as soul destroying as hitler's reign of terror, and Musilini, also Sadam Hussein. "How precious is life" a piece my daughter recentely had to write for a competition in the Welsh National assembly in Cardiff, it made me cry. is life so worthless that at the whim of our governments we KILL another human being. Governments will destroy the earth will neucleur bombs, because they can!!Read full review
