One of the best serial dramas produced by the BBC.
The book is wonderful. Tee TV interpretation is very good but lacks the excitement that the novel produces. The lead character sometimes seems disinterested but the supporting antagonists are wonderful. Headmaster with fruity voice and beefy nose inspires anyone to wish he was or will be there head. Great DVD even better book.

Excellent series with outstanding acting throughout. Wonderful storyline filled with joy, sadness, romance and triumphance. John Duttine is sublime in his role as David Powlett-Jones. They certainly do not make television series like these anymore, sadly!
