Thompson uses flamboyant colors to paint animated, evocative scenes that have a touch of van Gogh and a hint of Raoul Dufy. Thompson works in a bold mixed-media style that incorporates watercolor, pastels, acrylics, and oil paint sticks. The book will contain paintings of popular tourist sites-the Missions, the River Walk, the Governor's Palace, and La Villita; San Antonio views that are slightly off the beaten track-a Southtown ice house, trail riders to the Stock Show and Rodeo, a West Side tacquería, and the Liberty Bar; and cultural institutions-Trinity's tower, the Witte Museum, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center, the Carver Community Cultural Center, the McNay Art Museum, and the San Antonio Museum of Art.
