Works good for the money.
I have put 12 tapes through it so far. It seems to work ok. I tried a different brand, and this one works way better. It takes a little bit to get the hang of it. For instance, the recording doesn't stop when the tape stops. If I am not there when the tape stops, to stop the recording onto the USB, I just use Audacity to edit the mp3 and remove the dead air on the end. It is good enough for me. I wasn't doing music, just old recorded stories from family members. So far I am pleased. Sometimes the tape skips a little bit, but once I found out that tapes lose their lubrication over time, and lubricated my tapes, I didn't have that issue.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Not worth it, unless you plan to modify it
The amount of noise from the mechanism that bleeds through into the recording is so bad to make it essentially unusable. I've never heard such a poor quality cassette recording, the noise level essentially drowns out most sounds. Buy a used device with a decent mechanism, these cheap modern knockoffs are horrible. That said, there is a lot of room inside the case for modifications and the electronics look very simple -- the system is powered via 5 volts, and there is an easy break out for line level and speaker signals. As a voice recorder or recorder of any kind, this machine is basically unusable though.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Awesome Portable Cassette Player!
This portable cassette player is a wonder! Every feature works well as described. Sound quality is clear, volume doesn't get very high, but it's reasonable. All in all it works very well recording and play back. I love the option to add my content onto a USB and upload it in Mp3 format. Definitely a modern take on an old classic. It comes nicely packaged with an instruction manual. I am very pleased with this device. The only reason for the loss of a star is that there is no AC adapter with it. So I had to wait to use and test it (the cassette player) until one (an AC adapter power cord) could be procured. That and any external microphone must be purchased separately or you can use C batteries to power the device. It is noted in the description that the device comes without them. This is merely a heads up because I missed that the first time and had to wait until I had a way to power it in order to see how super cool this cassette player really is. Too soon to tell
I have only tried the recording feature, and the quality of the digital sound produced is surprisingly good, as good, or maybe better than playing the cassette itself. not sure about how to put multiple cassettes on a drive, and separating them, if that's possible, then this is a great device, need someone smarter than me to do it. Just like in the old days with a twist

Interesting Gadget
The product is an interesting gadget. The only issue that seems to be problematic is the play button will not always stay pressed in and playing and converting to digital stops. It's a sometimes frequent annoyance when just starting playback of a taped for converting a tape to digital and does not happen frequently after the playing has gone on for awhile. MP3 files play back well on some of my devices and auto, but having issue with MS Media Player related to codec for playback on computer.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

It's a generic cassette player, old-school, the same design that's been around for the past sixty years or so. The USB converter is a nice innovation that may come in handy. Junk! Unfortunately, this tape deck did not meet expectations. Only one spindle functions properly, regardless of the direction, which causes the tape to tangle and ultimately get destroyed. I lost two tapes due to this malfunction. The overall design feels underdeveloped and not ready for serious use. It's a far cry from the reliability of older models like those made by Sony.
