Mr Steppenwolf had the (mis)fortune to record 'Born to be Wild', a song written by his drummer's brother who went under the name of Mars Bonfire, actually called Dennis Edmonton. The trouble is with such a fantastic first song, how on earth could he follow it up. Well, in short he couldn't. He tried though and this collection is excellent. 'The Pusher' and 'Magic Carper Ride' are fine examples of late 60's progressive pop-rock. There was a huge wealth of great music during that period and to sustain a career in popular music was hard work. Today of course, Mr Steppenwolf, would be heralded as the new Oasis. It is of its time. Drug influenced lyrics and titles highlight the hot topic of the age. Have a good listen to 'Earschplittenloudenboomer' - fantastic stuff. I have always liked Steppenwolf and decided to purchase a CD featuring all of their hit songs. I was particularly pleased thar the song Magic Carpet Ride was included in the tracks as this is a really good song.
Brilliant all the best steppenwolf tracks and a very welcome addition to my collection most of which are on vinyl, Syeppenwolf still one of the greatest.
