About this product

Product Information

THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST depicts the last 12 hours of the life of Jesus of Nazareth (Jim Caviezel), beginning with his betrayal by Judas Iscariot (Luca Lionello) and ending with his crucifixion and subsequent resurrection. Directed by Mel Gibson (BRAVEHEART)--who funded the film himself and co-wrote the screenplay--PASSION uses flashbacks to substantiate a handful of pertinent moments in Jesus' life and teachings, such as the Sermon on the Mount and the Last Supper, as well as his relationships with his mother and his disciples. Still, the drama focuses on the seemingly endless torture inflicted upon Jesus by Roman soldiers at the urging of the Jewish crowd that considers him a blasphemer, despite the attempts of a sympathetic Pontius Pilate (Hristo Naumov Shopov) to spare him from death. The faint of heart should be prepared for the brutal, barbaric beatings that Christ endures. Maia Morgenstern, Monica Bellucci, and Hristo Jivkov are touching as Mary, Magdalene, and John respectively, who are devastated by Jesus' fate yet aware that they can do nothing to change it. Performed in Aramaic and Latin with English subtitles, Gibson's labor of love is sure to prompt discussion and debate as to historical and Biblical fact.

The Passion of the Christ is NOT entertaining

When you think about being entertained, you think about being motivated to laugh, try to figure out "whodunnit", be captivated by a great romance, etc. This is the story of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and how He suffered and died for our sins. The wonderful thing about all the awful torture he endured, for us, is that He arose from the grave and went to be with the Father to forever make intercession for us - the sinners whose sin put him on the cross. That, to me, is not entertaining - it's soul-stirring and humbling to think that He endured what he did for our sins. And, that we should love, honor, worship and praise His holy name after we have asked Him to forgive our sins and make us worthy of his sacrifice. We can NEVER be good enough, so that is where His salvation carries us through all things. I repeat, that is NOT entertaining. But, it IS hope and assurance that we won't have to burn in Hell for our miserable sins. Praise God for that!

    The Passion of the Christ

Centering the movie on the last few hours of Christ's life and Jesus being crucified, the attention to the grusome beatings with whips, thorns and sharp objects being raked over His body has been the focal of the movie. Various additional details have been added for sensationalism to keep up the momentum of the said beatings elongated out of proportion to reality. Then after all the torture, he is crucified. Bringing people to tears because of the excruciating pain endured by Christ is not something that is entertaining in any shape or form. I would not recommend this DVD to anyone due to the wide range of reactions a viewer would experience, the main being disgust, horror and crying for our Savior. Not something a Christian needs to endure or be entertained in any way. We do not have to accept this movie as what actually happened because an event occurring over 2000 years ago can not be 100% accurate. What I would recommend to everyone is the The Star of Bethlehem by Larson wherein he used software that NASA uses.

  • A MUST SEE for all Christians

Every human being needs to see this movie at least once. As a Christian, I feel very strongly that this movie is reverentially realistic in its portrayal of the savagery endured by the Savior. I encourage people to watch it in groups of two or more. Please do not let children see this unless an adult is with them because it is going to upset them terribly. But that is the point. Jesus paid the price for the sins of all and this movie depicts a degree of what that cost Him so that He could redeem man to Himself and conquer all other authorities on Heaven, in Hell, and on Earth. He now has the name above all names, having defeated Hell and Death, and sits at the right hand of God Almighty.

  • Tough going at the Pillar and Crowning, Carrying of the Cross and eventual Crucifixion. Not something for younger children, and younger teenagers

It breaks the heart of any Catholic to see the brutality inflicted on Jesus Christ by Pilate's soldiers, and the apparent complete lack of understanding of the true significance of what was actually happening, and how it was destined to change the world so completely in several hundred years. The movie was very realistic, the whippings were glaringly accurate and bloody, and the solders seemed to consider that they had a job to do, and did that job - probably wouldn't have gone too well with them otherwise. Our Jewish Brothers did not get short shrift when the description of the Passion of Christ was shown so graphically, bloodily and loudly. Probably most well balanced movie of it's type I have ever seen.
