Omens of War, the eighth add-on package for the preeminent MMORP EverQuest, follows spring 2004's Gate's of Discord and continues the epic story that began in earnest there. The heroes of Norrath have found that Mata Murim and his hellish hordes -- once the stuff of fairy tales and legends -- are indeed very real, and that they are set upon bringing all the world under the dark leader's reign. The Wayfarer's Brotherhood has chosen to travel to the Realm of Discord, and meet the Murimites in a final showdown on the their own ground; a victory here would almost guarantee peace back home. Yet the Realm of Discord is a dangerous, irrational place, which even the vile Muramites seems to dread.<br><br>In addition to advancing the Norrathian story arc, EverQuest: Omens of War brings some new features and possibilities to the game in general. The cap has been relaxed to allow characters to develop beyond 65th level, and heroes who complete especially daring, high-level quests may be rewarded with "Epic Weapons 2.0" -- hand-tailored artifacts of great power and prestige. Lower level characters benefit from the new task system, designed to make it easier for characters of any level to find productive, profitable work. The expansion also brings a selection of new items, spells, quests, disciplines, and tradeskills, and updates the game's graphics.
