All time classic
An all time TV characterisation drama hit. Not hard to see why with the quality of cast, and the design of the sets. I would recommend this to any drama lover.

One of the greatest BBC series ever made.
I watched the series as a teenager when it was first shown by the BBC. I am currently up to the fourteenth programme and I am surprised how much I remember. The biggest problem I have is that if I am not careful I will end up falling a sleep late at night watching the series. I have always wondered why the BBC have never repeated the series, I had thought that the BBC had wiped the tapes. A comment in the local paper made me search for the DVD and it has proved a most enjoyable investment, I wish I had known about the DVDs years ago.

The best version.
Having just re-read the book I wanted to see the old 1967 version, and it was a delight to watch. The casting and acting were superb and clearly spoken. Each disc is in its own pocket, so easy to put in and out. Sad that it wasn't in colour then, but still so good.

They don't make 'em like that any more
I really enjoyed this. I watched it in the 60's but had forgotten a lot of it. Wonderful acting, you can hear every syllable, great cast of character, congratulations to the casting team. I bought it as there was nothing but sport on the TV and I couldn't have enjoyed it more. The only thing that would have made it perfect would be if they had shot it in colour but it really didn't spoil the enjoyment of the series, it's just that I love to see the costumes in all their detail. I would certainly recommend it.

True Classic
Engrossing drama acted by actors who could project their voices and not mumble! Saw part of the original transmissions on BBC2 when it first came out. It’s good to revisit this production, a true classic.

Nostalgic viewing!
This was the original BBC series from the sixties. It was am amazing success then - and I can see why. A great storyline about a wealthy extended family at a time when desperate poverty was common in Britain and Ireland. Superb acting and a delight to watch - even though it was monochrome!
