After I watched the movie, I decided to buy the soundtrack of it. It was two weeks ago. And the CD is excellent! I listen is everyday. Overall, I'd recommend the CD if you're on a budget.
Like the 80's music that is timeless. There were some songs that are not quite my taste and I would not have purchased them seperately, but as a whole package its good.
This album is quality including classics from xtc, the cult, the source and duran duran, amoungst others. But there are three significant stand out tracks; Hayling from FC Kahuna is the opening piece with its cool breathy female vocal of 'Don't think about all the things you fear, just be glad to be here' repeated over and over trippy dub beats. Lovely. Can't Get Blue Monday Out Of My Head is the dancefloor mix up of Ms Minogue and New Order that absolutely shouldnt work but totally does, brilliantly. Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood covered here by Joe Cocker gives the hammond organ pounding 6o's pop song a real serious blues edge, gravel voiced vocals over a fantastic guitar riff. On top of all that you have the Michael Gambon sampling Aria which lifts one of the best quotes from the film. 'You're born, you take s**t, get out in the world, you take more s**t. Climb a little higher, take less s**t. 'Till one day you're up in the rarified atmosphere and you've forgotten what s**t even looks like. Welcome to the layer cake son.' This is a soundtrack that actually does the film justice. But even if you havn't seen the film yet you will still enjoy the music.Read full review
This is the best soundtrack ive ever listened too, i first saw this film 4 year ago and still watch it every other month. The music covered on it is breathtaking. Lisa gerrard voice is one in a billion. Jason Rae-cryan 37 sheffield uk
loved the film so had to buy the cd, with artists that are well known for their songs, easy listening and while listening clips of film pop into your head
