  • Deleted scenes mar this production

I was prepared for a filmed version with the singing dubbed. Though I question the legitimacy of doing this I have seen productions that are very effect in this manner. What I do object to is the omission of the entire first scene which introduces the children being taught a Christmas tune. This is a very important scene and one of the loveliest in the opera. It defines Charlotte's relationship and duty to the children and explains how Werther has become so smitten with her. Why cut this? Also Massenet is misspelled on the cover of the DVD! Not cool.
