Eclectic director Ridley Scott here tries his hand at a coming-of-age tale, which stars Jeff Bridges as ship captain Christopher Sheldon. Based on a true story, the film is set in 1960 as a group of teenaged prep students signs on to Sheldon's floating summer school, conducted on a two-masted brigantine bound for South America. It soon becomes clear that the gruff but humane captain runs a tight ship as he drills his neophyte crew on the importance of teamwork and discipline. The boys possess a wide range of temperaments--there's the bully, the daredevil, the one plagued by insecurities, the one with demanding parents. Sheldon uses the shipboard chores as tools for dealing with their problems, reining in the obnoxious and encouraging the anxious. Since they are, after all, sailors, they also get a chance to get drunk in port and stop over at a whorehouse. Finally, the crew must confront the fabled white squall, a deadly storm so rare that even Sheldon has never experienced one. Bridges, Ryan Phillippe, Balthazar Getty, and Jeremy Sisto give fine performances in Scott's film of spectacular visual beauty.

Loved this legendary movie!!!
There is a grassroots movement in the United States, that involves a group of patriots with the highest level of Secret Clearance known simply as Q. Sometimes it's written Qanon. How Tragedy Can Drive Any Lesson Home
Movie based on true events from the early 60s about a group of teenage boys learning how to work together and to get along.The story kept my attention all the way through (for me, that's saying something). The end of the journey was sad enough as it was -- hard to believe the courts tried to benefit in the wake of their tragedy. I think a little more time spent on overall character development might have made this movie more successful. However, it is definitely still worth watching even as it is.

Great Film
This is a film about a a group of young men who forgo their last year of high school in the traditional sense and sign on to crew a sailing vessel. As the movie progresses they learn to become men in the face of adversity. I gave this film a five star rating because I thought Jeff Bridges was convincing as the captain who must help these kids make the transformation into adulthood. The entire cast played their roles like seasoned professionals and we found it to be highly entertaining. If you have not seen this one yet I recommend you give it a look.
