About this product

Product Information

Championship Motocross 2001 featuring Ricky Carmichael is a motocross racing game that features a behind-the-back perspective and a variety of racing options. Players can choose from over 20 actual motocross stars and race on actual tracks, each accurately representing real locations.

There are a number of ways to play Championship Motocross 2001, including a Championship mode that takes players through various tracks in their quest to become the motocross champ. Each track has a tournament-esque setup, and players will go through heats of four riders in the hopes to get to the final round. Throughout the course of this mode, there is the option to upgrade your bike as you gain more experience by winning races. It is also possible to race a single track, bereft of the trappings of championships or upgrades.

Another mode gives players access to freestyle motocross. In this mode, racing is eschewed in favor of big air and tricks that seek to emulate the insane skills of real freestyle riders. Tricks that can't be accomplished in the racing modes can be done here, from Bar Hops to the famous Hart Attack. As an added bonus, there is an exclusive track created just for the game, where players compete for the THQ U.S. Open.

In an attempt to make the visuals as realistic as possible, the graphics engine relies on full-motion video played frame by frame at different rates of speed depending on how fast the player is going. Lots of these small clips are strung together to form the tracks, and finally, the sprites representing players on their bikes are laid onto the scene.
