A Must-Have of Must-Haves!
Great selection of songs and I bought it on the strength of The Guess Who's "These Eyes", which I relentlessly couldn't get out of my head... I must like it a lot, yet have yet to break into that group's catalog, so just that tune had to do--and did... Equally rewarding is Terry Jack's "Seasons In The Sun", (I'm lucky to have found it in Various Artists' company, as it's a song I needed and enjoy, outside of his Solo/Poppy Family Stuff!) and while I prefer Laura Nyro's original version of her "Wedding Bell Blues", (I'm seeking out a multi-artists comp that will give me that) The 5th Dimension's take on it was more of a hit & still an inclusion which I do welcome... So is Michael Martin Murphy's "Wildfire"--a very underrated track, and certainly did NOT diminish him to any unfavorable level, as some critics often are too quick to dismiss--while I still bask in the ironic & iconic inspiration... That is also what can be found in Hall & Oates' "Sarah Smile" the satire of "Brother Louie" by Stories, and "Brandy"--another must-have song, so lucky to obtain here, by Looking Glass... As for the Melanie track, "Brand New Key" certainly is no "Lay Down (Candles In The Rain)", which I'd wish could have been taken in, instead... But still glad to have Ocean's "Put Your Hand In The Hand", and its ironic counterpoint in the counter-cultural "One Toke Over The Line" --Brewer & Shipley, there,--portraying the innocewntly-Good of the former, & the playful-Evil of the latter, each of which competed for the highest reaches of the Top-10 Hits Songs in 1971... Then what topped the charts in 1976, and what I embellish in the 40th Anniversary of is Starland Vocal Band's "Afternoon Delight", which certainly refuses to hideaway, any-year, as it's always a joyful tune to hear just about EVERY Summer so nice to have hear & pledge to play no matter what the season--in cold weather, even, it still warms us all! Of course, to me, the advantage of this being own CD is that the songs can be easily programmed to the order that I want, but I always have it end with the wistful, whimsical and melancholy "Everybody's Talking", the Freddy Neil song, sung by Nilsson... So Search For This & Definitely Buy! Yes, "One Play Out Of Your Speakers"--'sung' in the manner of that Brewer & Shipley song, surely will make this an indispensable listening article for EVERY Music Collection! Put it in yours!
