About this product

Product Information

When a family of four children hide their mother's death to avoid going to a foster home, they think they are capable of assuming the mature roles forced upon them. Maturity, however, brings with it stronger urges--urges which brother and sister find hard to resist. This perversely compelling adaptation of Ian McEwen's novel was awarded "Best Director" at the Berlin Film Festival.

  • A Gargantuan Transgressive Epic

This movie has so many transgressive things going on in a subliminal level that it is almost a miracle that it works out the way it does. Charlotte's acting is amazing and Jack's character is surprisingly genuine. Capitalist misery, inversion of family roles, the failure of the traditional family model, cross-dressing, narcissism, incest, shaken gender paradigms and dirtiness as a landscape, it is all in The Cement Garden. This is one of the best transgressive films I've watched.
