Surprised how much I had forgotten about the structure of the first episodes. How much the flashbacks, duplicity and rage Tony displayed in the psych office provided the means to exploring his character. Much like the flashbacks for Brando in the Godfather. Nice.

Being a fan of the Godfather series, I wasn't giving The Sopranos a whole lot of head turn because nothing could top the original "Mob" family. After a bored Sunday evening, I rented the first Disc of Season 1. I was blown away at the level of complexity and dialogue this series had to offer. The writters really outdid themselves in just about every episode leading to the Season Finale. Season 1 was excellent, but compared to Season's 2 and 4 leading up to 5.... this is almost mediocre. But to see how it all started, the First season of The Sopranos is top notch!
The Sopranos brings back a lot of memories of my childhood. I grew up in a Italian family and neighborhood in a town near Phila Pa. We were not "mobbed up", but I knew a lot of the south philly wiseguys. The story bring home a lot of real things they do, but it also shows Tony and Carmello trying to do the right thing by Meadow and A.J. He has a lot of problems being "the Boss" both on the street and in his own household. David Chase did a masterful fob writing this story and I only wish a major motion picture could be made along the "Godfather" lines, but HBO has done okay. Everyone does not have HBO and can not enjoy all the problems, mistakes, joy, happiness, and everyday life of this family. The characters Christopher, Dr. Melfi, Paulie, Janice,Junior,Silvio and a "Big Pussy" all are very good in their roles. I enjoy watching them over and over. I hope to get all six seasons complete.Read full review
Gotta love the loud mouthed gangsters! If you're from New York too, youknow what I mean. Typical Italian, NY Mafia persona (although NJ based), the acting is incredible! You really fell like the movie is a real life caught on film! The acting, the make-up, the gore, its all one great package. I haven't missed an episode yet and miss it when its out of season, but I always sit idley by, waiting for it to air again. It's kinda tricky though, just as you think someone going to get whacked, something going to blow up, or whatever, it doesn't, so its keeping you on your toes all the time. Pretty cool!
Sopranos, wow. I have not had HBO in a decade. I had no clue they had thier own series of shows. I completely lost interest in TV since the bigging of the 'reality' shows. Low budget, crap, imho. Scooting through the ol remote one night I came accross the Soprano's show on some off base channel. I still have Cable, for internet access, so the tv comes on once in a while as it is part of the basic package. I bought the complete first season of the Sopranos, six dvd's, four episodes per dvd and watched all of them in two days. No comercials, fast forward throught the credits, dvr style, nice. I have since ordered season two and three. I'm hooked, should be done with the whole series through year six in about a month. Only problem is what do I watch then? I see a few other series, like deadwood and six feet under. I guess I'll have to trade these off for one of those. Don't care for sex in the city.Read full review
