1776 The Film
I saw this movie in the theater when first released and at the time I was not a fan of musicals I greatly enjoyed it. I had seen it on television but the newly restored directors cut has great clarity and no commercial interuptions. It gives a lighthearted and fun account of one of the greatest events in history and still gives it a lot of gravity at the moment of the ratification of the Declaration of Independance. Horrible Beyond Belief!
Music was intolerable! I love most musicals, but this was AWFUL! Much profanity and taking God's name in vain. Made founding fathers look trite and silly. Unbelievably bad. Couldn't finish it. I watch this movie every July 4th and love it each and every time! Now that I own my own copy, this will be easier than ever. I graduated from high school in 1972, the year this came out and I'm now 65 years old. I hadn't seen it in years and after watching again, I remember now why I loved it so much!
