The product arrived in great condition! The video quality is aged, but given the time it was released, I was expecting that. Moreover, the movie itself is also a really neat recap of the first 24 episodes of the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series-- perfect for double features with its companion, The End of Evangelion. It's a bit confusing, but seeing how it's EVA, that's to be expected. The new animation is all incredible though and the original end credits theme, Soul's Refrain, is one of my favorite songs in the series. Definitely pick it up if you want to complete your EVA collection.

Death&Rebirth is basicly seperated into two parts. the first part is DEATH which is a total recap of the show. Each scene was literally taken from the show and put into a sequence that makes it a little bit easier for unfamiliar viewers to understand it. It might seem like its not worth it if you've already seen the show or own it, but the reason why i rated it as Excellent is becuase of the special features. one of which gives you little info boxes that appear througout the movie to help people unfamiliar to the evangelion world understand it better. the rest of the special features include a complete glossary on most if not all the terms used in the evangelion series as well as cahracter bios and explainations, all of which end up being extremely useful. Another reason why its Excellent is because of the second part, REBIRTH. To my surpise after the ending credits for DEATH (which i only watched through becuase the amazing song)appears a countdown clock. After the countdown is over REBIRTH begins, and it shows where episode 24 in the series left off. I dont want to give anything away but i thought this part of the movie was intense and really awsome. but to my surpise it turned out to be the begining of episode 25 in End of Evangelion! (End of Evangelion for those who dont know is another Eva movie thats a complete remake of the last two episodes of the show 25 and 26) so if u already own or seen End of Evangelion this can seem like further waste of money. Overall it depends how much your knowledge of Evangelion extends to, for someone who knows very little its defintely worth it, for those who already have good understanding of the show and have seen End of Evangelion this would be somewhat uneccesary (unless, you wish to feel complete and take pride in owning it) Overall, for me, it helped clarify a couple of things but since i already own the complete series and EoE it wasnt anything new. But nontheless i am very very happy i bought it and regardless of who you are i would still reccomend buying it.Read full review
This is a summary of the Neon Genesis series made in the 90's. These episodes were released after the show had canceled after 2 seasons. Death and Rebirth are an episode long each and re-cap all of the important parts and highlights of the series. This movie tells the events right before the movie End of Evangelion, but is not entirely necessary to view if you have seen episodes 1-24. It was made mostly for people new to the Evangelion series so they wouldn't be lost watching The End of Evangelion. I believe this video is included with most boxed sets of the series, I know for sure it comes with the Platinum Collections. These episodes in this video are sometimes called episodes 25 and 26 and wrap up the series because it was cancelled early and the author did not have a chance to conclude the series. He was later able to make the movie End of Evangelion so this video became largely unnecessary. making it somewhat of a collectable that Eva fans wouldn't be without. The Video is entirely worth it just for the extras since some were not on any other releases such as photo gallery and conseptuals. Again it is nice but not necessary to comprehend the series.Read full review
Definitely a must for any Neon Genesis Evangelion Fan. Death and Rebirth was an answer for those who wanted more out of this spectacular show than the finale it presented. After the controversial last (2) episodes, the Director of the show Hideaki Anno went back to prepare a more "fitting" conclusion to the program. What he presented first was this production - Starting with "Death," we are presented with a recap of everything that has happened in the series through episode 24. - however, director's cuts are interspliced in key areas and new orchestrated soundtracks are added. There is only so much you can fit into this episode, but I found it effective and moving...especially the string quartet scenes (you will know it when you see it) and the powerful finale credit song. After a moving intermission of A Cruel Angel's Thesis, we are introduced to "Rebirth" - all new material that Anno uses to shock and awe the fans and reveal to us the physical truths that were going on while Shinji is going through his emotional crisis. - a new angel division, Nerv head quarters under attack, death, destruction...and the beginning of the end. This episode ends on a cliff hanger that sets us up for the Grand Finale - End of Evangelion. (truthfully these episodes were supposed to be the end but Anno ran out of time and money to complete them). And once again, a powerful ending and closing theme that tempts you to want more! Many will say to skip this entirely and go directly from the series to End of Evangelion, but I found there to be more than enough material to enjoy. Death and Rebirth gets a strong recommendation. It is a must have for any true fan! "God's in his Heaven/All's right with the world!" :)Read full review
If you liked Eva or are looking for some additional context to the grand mythology that is NGE, consider watching this. This will not answer the nagging questions or the rage you likely felt after viewing the infamous "congratulations" ending of the series. It is a good lead in to "End of Evangelion" which finally provides some closure to the characters and story but not the ending fans hoped for and deserved. If you are an Eva fan, you should add this to your collection.
