Fantastic nostalgia
The DVDs were in perfect condition. I watched this series almost 20 years ago, and watching it felt like it was yesterday. The distinctive style and fantasy themes contrast with historical reality, but it's even better as a fantastically odd creation than as a paint by numbers exercise. Also, its mix of animation and CGI is an interesting relic of its time. In that regard, this series is more than the history of the world - it's a fascinating history of animation. History buffs may find a rich vein of conversation in comparing the historical life of Alexander and his successors to the series, so long as they're ready for some weird twists and some unbelievable and unexpected character and set design.

Peter Chung's epic animated series REIGN truly reigns!
"REIGN: The Conqueror" is a quality set for a vastly underrated animated series by a master of the medium, Peter (Aeon Flux) Chung, an artist who is not known for his 'kiddy-shows' but rather his inventinve, adult-level storytelling. The very concept of REIGN, as a sci-fi re-telling of the legendary life of Alexander the Great, is bought to the screen with visual flare and well-researched details which makes for some impressive entertainment throughout all four volumes. It's dazzling to watch, powerful in content, and a true original. What's not to like?
