A timeless Classic for the ages.
Speaking of my own personal bias, the Honeymooners is my all-time favorite and number one show. Norton! Hey dere Ralfie boy! So much incredibly good writing, musical orchestra in the pits for the 3 stages with a centered primary stage, that pulled off so much original material, with meticulous timing, and the seldom miscues which worked to its benefit for that human touch, just cannot be reduplicated in today's grand scheme of things. From the opening and closing theme song written by Jackie, and the orchestra answered every action on stage with utter brilliance. The live audience reactions fueled the genius on the set for everyone to play off each other, like how musicians do when performing together. All the episodes were great, with the "Classic 39" being the epitome of their culmination of their works together. Sheer brilliance at every level of this Honeymooner concept. Ok but
The Honeymooners What else can be said Just Great! But am disappointed with the dvd menu options with this release as there is " NO OPTION TO PLAY ALL " you have to select the episode to play and when it's over back to the menu . This 69 year old series will always be one of the best TV comedies of the late 1950's. Sadly this past January, actress Joyce Randolph who portrayed the fictitious character Trixie passed away. So now all 4 main cast members are gone. But despite this, they will always be remembered for bringing laughter and joy on TV screens around the world. The Honeymooners: What a Great Value!
I watched this series when I was very young. Our whole family thought it was hilarious. Ralph is always scheming and always losing out, his plans forever coming to naught. For my money, this was probably the best cast on television in its era. The stories still entertain, and I am very pleased to be able to share this with my children today. I was eyeing them while we watched the first few shows, and they were laughing just as loudly as I did back when. The situations are ridiculous, but the underlying condition of our plight as humans remains the same. In other words, this show is timeless! Plus, my family gets to learn what life was like back in the 1950s--the things that mattered to us and the the situations that we were concerned with. The quality of the DVDs is better than expected. Of course, the shows are in black and white, but that only testifies to the product's faithfulness to its roots. I think, had they put this in color, that it would have lost some of its authenticity. I would compare this product to a vinyl 33 rpm record and digital sound today: we get all the music but without the scratches that one would expect to find in the original recording. Nicely done! God we loved Jackie Gleason, the CD is so clear and perfect, we just bought a new SONY Player/Recorder for CD's and VHS tapes, I've seen shows at 74 years old I don't remember, there are 39 shows, I didn't know it only ran that long? Yes. yes I can still remember watching "The Jackie Gleason Show" live!
