About this product

Product Information

The 'Harold', an innovative improvisational tool, helped many actors on the road to TV and film stardom, including George Wendt (Norm on Cheers). Now it is described fully in this new book for would-be actors and comics. The 'Harold' is a form of competitive improv involving 6 or 7 players. They take a theme suggestion from the audience and 'free associate' on the theme into a series of rapid-fire one-liners that build into totally unpredictable skits with hilarious results. The 'Harold' is a fun way to 'loosen up' and learn to think quickly, build continuity, develop characterisations and sharpen humour.

  • Barely a book

Truth in Comedy is not what it promises. What they've done is take three ideas, repeat them, repeat them over and over, and then make the book look longer by adding inane filler and silly exaggerations. To protect someone else from reading my copy, I put it in the paper recycling bin. I am not a general reader. I am a script consultant in the entertainment business.

I used to think Viola Spolin's "Improvisations for the Theater" was the improv bible. This is my new improve bible. Learn the Harold, long form improve as taught at Second City Chicago. As You know, all of your favorite comedians studied at Second City Chicago. Second City Toronto goes for cheap laughs, Improv Olympic is run by those who studied at Second City, CHGO. It's true. the best comedy is when you reveal a truth to the audience.
