Deep within the kingdom of Kal Torin lies Castle Shadowgate, a place where the evil Warlock Lord rests in eternal slumber. Legend tells of a great battle in which the Warlock Lord was defeated by a cunning warrior named Jair, who later became king of Kal Torin. To ensure the dark one remained in the castle, the wizard Lakmir volunteered to stand guard within its secured walls.<br><br>One hundred years have passed since the noble Jair and wise Lakmir walked the land, and the once enchanting castle lies in ruins. Thieves continuously explore the depths of its chambers, while others raid the caravans roaming nearby. It was during one of these raids that a young halfling named Del Cottonwood was captured and thrown into a cold, dark dungeon within the ancient castle. Faced with the prospect of death, Del must somehow find a way out...<br><br>Shadowgate 64: Trials of the Four Towers is the sequel to Shadowgate, a graphic adventure released ten years earlier on the 8-bit NES. Now the castle is in 3D and you must solve puzzles and explore your surroundings from a full-screen, first-person perspective. Meet characters in your attempt to break free from the mysterious castle, and gather items to help you progress through its foreboding four towers and Chamber of Holding. As you learn more about the history of the building, you may encounter Lakmir's ghost or one of the Warlock Lord's evil minions.<br><br>You begin the game locked in a cell without any weapons or items. From this point on, you must use your wits and keen eye for detail to find a way out. Movement is performed using the controller's yellow buttons, while looking around is accomplished via analog stick. Players can talk with characters they meet, examine items, crouch, consult a map, read books, and check their inventory to activate certain items.
