Old films are often better than modern and can carry the suspense of an old fashioned Thriller! Four of us watched this when it arrived, some time ago now (am only just sending this review, when reminded!) and I’m afraid we were most disappointed. In our opinion, it was dull and boring! The DVD is 2 sided. The BRITISH version is on one side & the Hollywood version on the other. Watch the BRITISH side, it's only slightly different so not worth seeing both sides. The genius of Alfred Hitchcock, an absolute classic! Whilst Strangers on a Train may not rank amongst his best films, it's well worth watching. The cast are fairly unfamiliar, the acting is top notch, but the genius lies with the camerawork, the dialogue itself, & as always, the music. (Not to be recommended to those who cannot cope with character-based actions). Hitchcock's cameo sees him getting on a train with a double bass. The whole story keeps you on your toes, wondering where the storyline will go next. It was kept tight & left you guessing about what would happen next! Suspenseful, sexy & not unafraid of humour. You are treated to a fine spectacle, orchestrated with care & detail to achieve a wonderful momentum & a dizzying climax. The fairground scene seems a little dated but makes for a satisfying conclusion. The fact it was in black & white, only enhanced the whole film. It was great, Highly Recommend!Read full review
An innovative film of its time, still stands out as special, even though similar films have been made on the same theme of murder. It is the sort of film that you can keep on your shelf and watch again.
