The plot: The mexican (played superbly by Antonio Banderas) is a dark and mysterious drifter with a score to settle. Bucho is responsible for the death of his lover and shooting his hand (meaning he can't work as a Mariáchi anymore). It's not really much of a plot but the explosions and gunfights really shine through . Packed with lots of bloody violence, strong language.

A few years ago I watched 'Desperado' when it appeared on TV. At that time it was just another movie to me, but one that I really enjoyed. Then a few years later I became aware that 'Desperado' was actually a kind of half remake of this original low budget movie. When the movie starts you might well be thinking that this a dodgy, straight to video production but after a while you get into the swing of things. For myself as a filmmaker this was a truly inspiring movie. To see what you can do with an ant sized budget and a handful of people. The DVD extras are wicked too with a 10 minute gorilla guide to making films, a short programme about the cunning special effects and film tricks used in 'El Mariachi' and a copy of director Robert Rodriguez first short film which I think stars either his kids or nephews (they have the same surname). 'El Mariachi' may not be the best film in the world, due to some dodgy acting, but this can be forgiven to take into consideration the amount of money, time and creativity that went into creating this film without the help or backing of any film studio or distribution company. If you are interested in making films this would be one of those hidden gems worth checking out.Read full review
Where can I start?? The story from El Mariachi....... The action in Desperado....Lets start with the first, El Mariachi..!! What a film!! Not one to watch with a girlfriend (due to the subtitles) It's much more enjoyable sipping a brew on your own, with the feeling that after watching/reading so much Spanish, you are infact, part of the film, thus, the character himself. If you are a little clever and were amused by 'The Usual Suspects', this film will encapture you on a different 'but satisfactory level'. After watching this, stick on Desperado, to keep yourself happy, and enjoy a film that you know some of the inner depths to, without your girlfriend asking, 'who is that?' 'What did he do wrong?'. For a fiver, You cant go wrong!!
El mariachi / Desperado is about a lone mariachi player traveling the towns of mexico looking for work. but no sooner that he arrived in town his life gets turned up side down by the local drug lord. he has to fight to survie the drug lord thug army. In Desperado the mariachi sets out for revenge on all that the drug lord has done to him along the way. he meets a local who helps the beautiful salma hayek and together they bring down the evil drug lord once and for all. a must see film
both films excellent and well acted by grat stars but not a film that i would watch over and over again
