If you've never seen this film, the last thing you'll want is a full synopsis! So here's a quick breakdown of why this film is truly deserving of it's 'Disney Classic' label: 1. The heroine isn't your average mamby-pamby Disney princess and is sure to be loved by any little girl who loves being different or beating up her brothers (I speak from experience of course!). 2. Despite being set during a war, this bleak backdrop (although in no way belittled) is brightened by comedy for all the family. From Mulan's hilarious attempts at 'manning up' to Eddie Murphy's wonderfully entertaining voicing of Mushu the dragon. 3. The music is catchy during the songs, making any child (or adult!) want to sing along, and sets scenes beautifully during the rest of the film. 4. The animation is stunning. There is a scene that may remind you a little of the stampede in The Lion King but this time the CGI whizz-kids at Disney look like they really know what they're doing. Each hun is unique (although I don't expect you to have time to check them all!). 5. There is a take-home message of true friendship prevailing no matter what the circumstances and of doing in life what you can do best, even if that's seen as unconventional or different. I hope I've sold it to you! Enjoy!Read full review
Embraced for her loveable, spirited nature, Mulan is a young girl who doesn't quite fit into her tradition bound society. When the invading Hun army comes charging over China's Great Wall, Mulan's ageing father is ordered into battle! To spare him from harm, Mulan disguises herself as a soldier and secretly takes his place in the Imperial army, training with a comical, ragtag troop, led by the courageous Captain Shang. Never far away are Mulan's hilarious guardian dragon, Mushu, and lucky cricket, Cri-Kee. But Mulan will need more than Mushu's razor-sharp wit to defeat the ruthless Hun leader, Shan-Yu. Only by staying true to herself will she bring victory to her country and honour to her family.
Mulan is an absolute Disney Classic! The film follows Mulan, disguised as 'Ping', take her father's place in the Chinese battle against the Hun. With strength and discipline, Mulan becomes one of the strongest soldiers in her regiment, alongside developing feelings for her Captain, Ling. Featuring the songs Reflection, A Girl Worth Fighting For, and Let's Get Down to Business, Mulan is true to Disney's form with a fantastic soundtrack. A must have for any DVD collection!
