Additional InformationNOTORIOUS is Alfred Hitchcock's classic romantic espionage thriller, with passionate, brilliant performances by Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman, featuring one of the most famous screen kisses in film history. At the end of World War II, American military intelligence drafts the alluring daughter (Bergman) of a convicted Nazi to infiltrate a band of nefarious Germans who have fled to Brazil. She is teamed with a dashing but chilly agent (Cary Grant) with whom she falls deeply in love. Because of her past, however, the rigid and judgmental agent refuses to trust her--and their relationship falls completely apart when she agrees to marry the ringleader of the Germans (Claude Rains) in order to have better access to information. The marriage touches off an intricate downward spiral of deceit and betrayal, leaving Bergman trapped in the home of an enemy. If her husband ever discovers the truth about her mission, her life will be in mortal danger. Punchy dialogue animates this action-driven thriller that maintains its suspenseful drama to the very end.

  • '' Classic with plenty of suspense throughout keeps one hooked and at the edge of your seat.''

This is one of Hitchcock's best films with Cary grant who falls for Ingrid Bergman, set during the time of the second world war, throw in a bunch of bad guys (Claude Reins and his German counter parts). Grant and Bergman fall in love but what throws the path of true love off kilter is Mr Reins and his mob of ruthless cronies and add in an interfering mother into the mix. What we have is a memorable film with peaks and troughs at every turn and memorable characters a timeless classic that can be viewed time and time again. Even Alfred Hitchcock makes a cameo appearance some where along the way too. It is entertaining, the characters are memorable and a fantastic musical score that gives it a perfect theme and score. Made in the forties so it one of the films that set a tone to raise the moral when the world was at war when the film was shown in the cinema during this era. It is from the golden age of the old Holywood so different from the ones made now. It is an enjoyable film and with sense of an old fashioned romance thrown in to keep one at the edge of ones seat, Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman provide this. It is a fantastic Hitchcock film who was the directer known as the master of suspense and this is one of his which made the grade.
