Jeffrey Bernard, during his journalistic career was often euphemistically 'unwell' and consequently was unable to complete is article deadlines; in such cases the newspaper just wrote quite simply, 'Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell' at the foot of his stand-in's column. The play - of which this is a filmed version - takes us behind the scenes and treats us to his alcoholic, often hilarious, sometimes poignant, background and private life with tremendous insight and empathy. The whole production is a delight from start to finish. It is a wonderful performance by the extremely talented Peter O'Toole. Not to be missed!

I saw this show in the West End years ago, and loved it. The DVD brought it all back, and I thoroughly enjoyed it - very, very, funny, and O'Toole is superb. Very glad I bought it - but it wasn't cheap...

Great nostalgia to watch Bernard’s writings brought to life by the great Peter O’Toole. Great acting, very funny dialogue and well-presented. Highly recommend.

I have not played this copy as it is for a gift. I bought it because the original is brilliant. A stage play set in a pub with Peter O'Toole acting his socks off. Maybe not everyone's " cup of tea " but certainly mine.
