The Right Stuff is my favourite film, and has been since I first saw it in January 1986! This recent purchase is a present for a friend, to spread the good word. I first saw The Right Stuff on video, but I've since seen it five times on the big screen, which is by far the best way to see it. Every time I see it on the big screen, I just fall in love with it all over again. It's a true epic of heroism, endeavour, and the finest of the American spirit. It's often described as "exhilarating" and I think that describes it perfectly. Bill Conti's five-and-a-half minute theme at the end is my all-time favourite piece of music, and never fails to lift my spirits! Truly scandalous that this magnificent, monumental movie was passed over for Best Picture Oscar in favour of Terms of Endearment.

Ok, I’m a lady of an age when I saw this film the first time round serialised on TV and I’ve never forgotten it. It’s been wonderful to revisit the era. If you like Apollo 13, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this film and the extraordinary people who made early space flight possible.

This movie is terrific. It came out before Apollo 13 but is of the same stirring stuff. Telling the story of the beginning of America's coming into the Space Race and also the breaking of the sound barrier by Chuck Yeager, this is one of the best films of recent years and a worthy Oscar winner. It tells of real great American heroes such as John Glenn who went on to travel in not only one of the first Mercury rockets but later on the Space Shuttle aged in his 70's. Superb acting by Ed Harris and Dennis Quaid. Miss this film at your peril. Also the second disc provides excellent documentaries about the real people and events.
