Louis Prima was a star long before his characterisation of King Louie in The Jungle Book but, even in that Disney film, his ebullient personality was let loose. He just had a love of life and combining that with music he became the consummate showman. This CD contains 26 tracks from his most successful and popular era, from 1956 until 1962. His association with the tenor saxist, Sam Butera, was a meeting of like minds and, together with Sam's musicians, produced the most joyful and swinging music that just keeps you wanting more. They just rock like crazy. In here you get Just A Gigolo; Buona Sera; Jump,Jive & Wail ; That Old Black Magic; Lazy River and a blindingly upbeat St Louis Blues amongst so many other goodies. There is not a duff track. The delectable Keeley Smith figures [and what a figure !] on some songs and it is with her that I think he has the most fun [on stage and off]. She was the talented deadpan stooge on stage and became his 4th wife. He went on to a couple more after he strayed but Keeley was the best of them. Their live shows were as hot as you got, and one or two cuts are on this CD. Search out his live stuff from Las Vegas on other CDs. This is straight ahead rocking entertainment at its best, from his most successful era. Buy it, you will not be disappointed.Read full review
