ZULU is an exceptionally well-made and beautifully shot film from 1964 that demonstrates the bravery of the British troops and also acknowledges the Zulu's bravery. The emotional score of the film was conducted by John Barry. Eleven Victoria Crosses were won in the action, the most in a single battle. Most of the characters in the movie were based on real participants of the battle.

Well made for its time (I saw it when it first came out) but over the years has lost its punch. But the sound of the approaching Zulus churns my stomach just as it di when I saw it as a youngster.

Because the film tells a story of heroic bravery, without glossing over the facts. Together with its predecessor, Zulu Dawn, tells a very accurate story of just part of the Zulu Wars. We know that in these enlightened times this would not take place, but this was a different time. Let us enjoy it.

Wonderful trip down memory lane. I actually took part in a military tattoo at Wembley where we actually got on our horses and re-enacted the battle. Great privilege now denied this current generation of soldiers because nationalism has been deliberately destroyed by our corrupt governments
