Wonderful but underrated movie. Screenplay was by English playwright Christopher Fry, who had previously cleaned up and made poetic the Tunberg/Vidal 'Ben-Hur' script of 1959. Barabbas has exquisite Italian art design, fine direction (Richard Fleischer), great actors, beautiful cinematography and a storyline that has depth: the cycle of light/dark, up/down pendulum that is human life. Barabbas is 'everyman', torn between doubt and faith, it's a deep movie.

I am doing a collection of Jesus films and so i bought it. I liked the story of the film. It was excellent.
I owned the original on video so am now trying to update all my films onto DVD. The film portrays what happened to Barabbas after the death of Christ but I will leave this to whoever might wish to purchase the DVD for themselves. I found the film well acted and would recommend it to anyone.
