PANIC ROOM 2002 David Fincher **/*** A rather flaccid thriller, well certainly the first half. Meg (Jodie Foster), divorced mother, moves into a vast 4-story brownstone mansion in New York with her daughter. This house, for reasons we will eventually discover, has a panic room; a steel bunker attached to Meg’s bedroom with security cameras and screens, outside-line (not yet connected) , emergency bog and first aid, et al. In the middle of their first night there, the grandson of the previous owner (Junior) breaks in with two cohorts, one being Forest Whitaker, a basically decent guy, who constructed the room, and through financial need is forced to crime. The third character Raoul, is a thoroughly nasty thug. Meg and daughter, discovering the burglary, hide in panic room but that is where the crooks want to get access to, as in it is a safe, full of millions of dollars. So a battle of wills and ingenuity commences between the crooks and the women. Muddy the plot with the daughter being diabetic and the women managing to contact Meg’s ex-husband, who turns up and gets brutally beaten up. However the crooks eventually turn on each other, and only Forest Whittaker survives, to be arrested by police. The film lacks the tension and mood that Hitchcock would have invested in it. No artifice really.Read full review

I have looked at the film several times and still enjoy it. It is very realistic with things are becoming more and more like this in reality. Sadly.
