When Metallica entered their 'Load' period the group had expunged a lot of their epic tendencies to concentrate on a dirty, chunky sound that chimed with the times. With Bob Rock at the helm 'Reload' was just as low-down and mean as its predecessor, with tracks like 'Fire' and 'The Memory Remains' cementing their rep as great songwriters as well as headbangers.
