This is a fascinating storyline, While being based on the cold war, and a true story, the methods are probably just as applicable today. A story of how security can be undermined, betrayals of friendships and trust, human nature, and animal nature. The sound track features "This is not America" sung by David Bowie, but the whole score is from the Pat Metheny Group and for fans this is a must for the incidentals not included on the soundtrack album of the same name. Overall it's well acted, a sometimes disturbing story with a little humor. It is different from the normal good guys versus bad guys in that as you see the story from the view of the hunted, and the play on the ideas of the falcon and the authorities make this a film you should watch at least once in your life. I discovered this film though my love of the music, I have bought to keep, but if you buy to watch then sell on, you will not be disappointed with a very believable story line, your view of the secret keepers may ever be the same. The music is jazz fusion (acoustic guitar and keyboards), and the David Bowie single is not really representative of the music of Pat Metheny Group, but the film includes music from one or two of his other albums. Duration 126 minutes, widescreen, stereo, 15 rated.Read full review
Based upon the 1979 book: A True Story of Friendship and Espionage by Robert Lindsey, the file tells the story of the partnership between Christopher Boyce and Andrew Daulton Lee, who stole US spy satellite secrets and delivered them to the Soviets, during the early days of the post-Nixon impeachment era. The script is intelligent and remains largely faithful to the book. Both Timothy Hutton (as Boyce) and Sean Penn (as Lee) play their respective roles fairly convincingly, with Hutton giving a particularly empathetic performance.
