Der Golem Aka The Golem is a classic and this dvd restoration does it every bit of justice it deserves. When buying classic 1920s horror dvds you should always remember that most of these films are now public domain meaning that anyone can produce a dvd of it without paying royalties and sadly this often means that quality is lost or even scenes are missing, this version however has been beautifully restored to the best conceivable quality for its age and is one of the most complete versions available. One of the best features and often overlooked with these releases is the dvd menu, the producers have cleverly used footage from the film a scene when a book is opened and integrated the menu onto it, it looks very effective and shows a degree of love that a plain old textual menu doesnt. This DVD has options for German and English, in the English version you will find another great feature to this dvd; many scenes have signs, letters or books that need to be read to follow the story the creators of this dvd have superimposed english script into the movie to replace the german writing on screen and it is very well done once again showing more effort than simply putting subtitles on the screen for those parts.Read full review
