Rock Follies is one of my favourite series from the 70's and i love Rula Lenska now in coronation street, It's a real trip down memory lane. I have the second series but have been looking for the first for years. Many thanks, i'm a truly satisfied customer.

What a box full of memeories this turned out to be. I was 15 when the series was screened and it had a huge impact on me at the time. I was a bit wary about buying this DVD as I didn't want to find that the show had dated badly - but apart from a few wobbly moments it's held up pretty well. The pacing is much slower than we've become used to and the whole thing is not as slick as would be if made now, but generally the storyline still holds your attention. Bits of it are still relevent - such as the 1970's recession - although some of the feminist stances are (hopefully) redundant now. I thought this was the height of glamour and sophistication first time round; it's still pretty stylish - but to to modern eyes the girls' natural figures seem unusual. My daughters found the clothes hilarious, the 'soft porn' scenes are tamer than the average pop video now and let's not mention all the smoking... still I liked it and I expect lots of other coming-up-to-50's would like it too. Especially the ones who dyed their hair red. The DVD also has interviews with Howard Schuman and Andy Mackay which don't trample on good memories!!Read full review
I first watched this when it aired in 1976!!! I can certainly say that they don't make televion programmes like this anymore! Made in the days when programme makers had unlimited budgets, the money spent on it shows in terms of production values, the costumes, sets, makeup and wigs, and of course the series premise, the music!!!! Surprisingly, the series still remains fresh and vibrant. It's well paced, funny and tackles the sort of issues that would not be out of place in today's contemporary drama television. The series concerns the lives and upward rise to fame of the fictional all girl group "The Little Ladies", charting their success (or otherwise) as they are pushed from pillar to post in the rock music business. All in all a high camp romp!!!
The 70's as seen by the follies,Rula Lenska as the vamp is a tour de force, charlot Cornwell plays the brooding rich kid wishing she was poor to identify with the rest of the band and not had her id removed by the university system and her matriarch mother. Julie Covington is a star when she opens her mouth to sing she has a strong clear rock voice. She did follow the follies with the original west end sound track of Evita showing her vesatility. It is a pity that she turned her back on fame we could have had a superstar in our midst. The follies is set in the seveties a new all girl group starting in the hard world of rock. They have a few breaks but more bad luck than good. Going from manager to manager they begin toa lose hope when they get a gig which results in a terroist bomb blowing the club and the gig. I like this dvd because of a number of reasons; I remember it originally been screened when I was a teenager so I expect I wanted to revisit my youth. I also enjoy the starkness of the sets which to a point could have been in a theatre. Contrast is given in the short videos contained in each episode to highlight the hopes and asparations of the band. There is little to dislike about the dvd only perhaps poor quality of the dvd it would benefit from a digital upgrade.Read full review
