I love Roman history and while this series may not be 100% historically accurate it does tell a good tale, great casting with some of Britain’s finest actors of the time, the only blemish is Biggins as Nero, a total miscast, luckily his role isn’t that big!

Great set of DVDs. Watched the programme back in 1976 and enjoying it all again. Fun spotting a host of familiar actors who've gone on to many other roles; sadly a number no longer with us.

top quality actors ,brilliant storylines, this was good viewing when first released, worth paying for the box set to view yet again. alas, due to lockdown I am very disappointed by the state of daytime tv, I have sky tv, over a thousand channels and still having to resort to buying quality programmes why cant the bbc create programmes as good as this now?

Superb BBC production from an age when they led the world in drama production

Probably the greatest drama to come out of the BBC in the 1970s. It is the engaging story of the first five emperors of Rome, based on the Robert Graves’ novels which, in turn, were inspired by his own translation of “The Twelve Caesars”. Aim to buy the 5 disc set rather than the 3 disc set.
