Additional InformationDuring World War I, the Blue Max, a coveted medal for achievement in flying, is ruthlessly sought by Bruno Satchel (George Peppard), a poor-boy German soldier who climbs out of the trenches and into the aristocratic air force. He is met with prejudice by the other contestants, wealthy snobs who look down upon his low economic stature. When he claims the title, he earns the respect of the general (James Mason) and the general's wife (Ursula Andress), who wants to repay him in ways that the General might not appreciate. Fantastic aerial combat highlights the film, and the scenes between the two lovers don't hurt matters much.

    The Blue Max DVD

The Blue Max is a great WW1 film, with many spectacular air battle scenes. It is a long film at 149 minutes, but the story and action move along at a pace. The pre-owned copy I bought sticks in a few places, which is annoying, so it was a case of caveat emptor!

    Dissapointed.

Saw this film when it first came out many years ago so recently decided to read the book which is brilliant. As a result of this I decided to watch the film again. While in itself the film is good I was really disappointed at the number of radical changes the filmmakers had made. They even changed who died at the end. Good old Bruno did not go down with his aircraft but survived to star in two further novels.
