This collection of DVDs perfectly encapsulate the range and variety of Xena's adventures - from the brilliant (having been crucified, Xena and Gabby become engaged in a war between Heaven and Hell to save their souls), via the bizarre (Xena swaps bodies with young girl and a Wild West-themed adventure) to the truly awful (a musical episode that must rate as the worst I have yet seen and the slapstick piefight, which was just too silly - even for Xena!). As ever the episodes teeter on the brink of being un-PC, but manage to be sexual rather than sexiest - despite the abundance of gorgeous women in skanty outfits and, for the ladies, well-oiled muscular beefcakes flexing their pecs at every opportunity. The variety, and quality, of the stories means even at its worst the series never seems stale - because you can always be sure something different is just around the corner. Yet while Xena: Warrior Princess doesn't take itself too seriously, there is still enough consistent mythology to suggest that there is a "Big Idea" behind the show. Personally, I love the series and bought this box-set to pad out my small Xena collection - without having to fork out the ludicrous £30+ that High Street stores ask! Sadly, the British discs are totally bereft of extras - unlike the well-packed American versions - but again it comes down to price.Read full review
I bought this DVD as I am a fan of the series and am still trying to get the complete series on the official DVd's This was a resonably priced item which fully lived up to my expectations allowing me once again to enter the world of this remarkable TV Series. It again demonstrated the writing directing acting talenyts that were involved in this exiting fantasy series.
