This is a very faithful adaptation of the novel by Catherine Cookson. The script is fabulous on its own and the acting is superb, especially Brandon Coyle's portrait of the mysterious Manuel Mendoza. I just don't rate it Excelent because the DVD is seriously lacking in special features and a scenes menu. Other that that, I really recommend this fabulous mini-series.
Just love Catherine Cookson you get ducked right into the film.

I love the Catherine Cookson series of books so when some of them were made into television mini series, I knew I had to watch and own them for later viewings. I especially like this version of the glass virgin because it has a strong cast such as Nigel Havers, Emily Mortimer and Brendon Coyle to name just a few. The characters in this version are believable and very similar to the book which is one of my favourites; I am looking to buy some more in this series of DVD's as this was not only good viewing but it was also a good buy.
Living a life of luxury at Redford Hall, Annabella is blissfully unaware that he father is a spendthrift and a womaniser. His debts are threatening to ruin the wealthy family into which he married. Annabella is unaware of the shameful secret that she is actually the daughter of a local prostitute. When Annabella grows into a beautiful young woman and reaches 17, her cosy world is shattered. A classic Catherine Cookson collection, essential for any fan of other C.C. titles.
This will be a very short review!! I am a Catherine Cookson fan and enjoy reading her books and I therefore like watching her films, either on TV or DVD. That is why I bought this item, to build up my collection. I liked the film and enjoy seeing the historical setting rather than just picturing it in my head! There was nothing that I disliked about the DVD. Ken
