Possibly Nick Cage’s best performance.

A film made by the guys who directed 'Being John Malkovich' (Spike Jonze) and starring Nicholas Cage in two parts (he plays identical twins, both of them screenwriters) and Meryl Streep and the awesome Chris Cooper as an author and a flower officiando (an 'orchid hunter') respectively. This is totally off the wall. Loosely the plot is that Streep has written a book about Cooper which then gets bought into a film. The film begins as one of the brothers played by Cage is requested to write the screenplay but instead of writing a something based on an interpretation of the book, he prefers to outline the story of Streep interviewing Cooper and the relationship that develops between them as the original book was being transcribed. In doing this though, he intrinsically puts himself, and by default his brother into the screenplay. This is a great watch. Nic Cage does a sterling job of playing identical twins, but even he, and the formidable Streep, get blasted out the water by Mr Chris Cooper as John Laroche. He is fantastic. This is a twisty weird story that would appeal to any fans of the gently weird and wonderful. The joy is the rich kooky characters. Adaptation makes for a funny and thought provoking watch.Read full review
Another brilliant script from CK. Written in between Being John Malkovich and the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind it tells the story of Charlie Kaufman and his brother who are both trying to write scripts. CHarlie is trying to adapt a book about an orchid hunter whilst his brother is writing a high action film. Reality and fiction blur wonderfully is this film. If you've an ambition to be a writer then this is an excellent film to watch and understand.
I love voice-overs and this movie's full of them. A story told as few others about hunting for orchids, being a writer and the golden boy in a family - having your brother wanting, and succeeding to be just like you. About the pressure of fitting in - adapting and making sense of it all.. I'm amazed at how this movie tells it's story, and although i usually dread N. Cage I forgive him for most of his other performances after the one he does here. There's also that thing you love about Kaufmann-stories, all the weirdness that you get to experience... it truly would be a great loss not to step into his world.
Its a great film with a unique plot, very compelling watching even though it seems as nothing is developing. I like the narative of the film, and Nicholas Cage performs in his best role in a long time.
