I have been looking for a copy of "Annie Get Your Gun" on DVD for a long time, and when I saw this at a reasonable price I jumped at the opportunity to get it. I watched it the other day and was more than happy with it.
One of Howard keel's first films made in 1950, plenty of action as you see Annie Oakley (Betty Hutton) trying to win over Frank Butler (Howard Keel). Plenty of songs that you will remember, it has been digitaly remastered (restored) to it's former glory. Hi jinx's galore as you see the wild west show travel the world in a shoot em up wild west show musical.
This is a film i first saw many years ago when it was first released. The fabulous music and the wonderful voice of Howard Keel made it unforgetable for me. There is humour too especially with the heroine trying to read and the Indian Chief, who is her adopted father. Betty Hutton played a great role which I didnt think could match Doris Day in Calamity Jane, but succeeds marvellously. It is a timeless classic, having been a smash-hit on Broadway too, with memorable songs from the wonderful master Irving Berlin.
Lovely film. No bad language. No sex scenes. Good entertainment for the whole family. Betty Hutton is brilliant as Annie and scrubs up well. Howard Keel towers over the girl but he singing is wonderful.
Would have preferred the version with Ethel Merman as Annie but don't think that this was recorded. Enjoyed the details given before the film started giving information about the background of the film, the stars and how the film got made. A good old musical with loads of of well know songs in it to sing a long to. Glad I bought it
This is an excellent example of the way in which a film should be made. It is colourful, entertaining, cheerful and a thorough delight to watch. There is no swearing, sex or violence. The cameraman has used a 'Tripod' to keep the camera still ( a VERY rare practice these days), and the camera shots keep a reasonable distance from the subject (unlike today, when they go so close you can see the hairs up their noses). Generally speaking, this is a very nice family film which can be watched many times, and leaves you feeling happy :o)
