    Not exactly Jimmy Bond - but for 1959 still an engaging classic with a greatly under-rated Kenny More

    A John Buchan yarn perhaps not quite in the mould of the Robert Donat classic of 1935. However, location filming widely used - especially in Edinburgh, Waverley Station and throughout the Trossachs and in glorious colour so what more could one ask for on a quiet week-end afternoon. And Taina Elg is very attractive sparring gently with the late, greatly missed Kenneth More. Can definitely recommend it. Had Kenny's later real-life love and later, wife, Angela Douglas been known then, Angela would have made a beautiful alternative leading lady - based on her comedy/drama experience. The scenes on the real Forth Railway Bridge are a must watch. Say no More.

    Not true representation of film

    Delivery service of DVD was first class, unlike the actual film production. If you want a faithful film of John Buchan's novel, buy the Robert Powell 1978 version instead (available from same supplier). Whilst Kenneth More was a good actor, I feel his talents were lost with this particular version. I have since purchased the later DVD, and am delighted with it

    Well acted and enjoyable. Purist will argue the story is far removed from the book and in the wrong decade, but it is way better than the Hitchcock version rubbish

    The best version of the 39 steps (in my humble opinion). Drama, excitement, love and romance all mixed in with the "shocking" stocking screen which nearly proved to risky for its age. A timeless classic with some excellent outdoor shots of the Scottish highlands.
